THE CAPSULE WARDROBE

I like minimalism. I like the idea of taking something that can be messy and complicated and breaking it down into nice, simple, clean parts.

My wardrobe was a problem, and I wanted to attack it.

The idea of a capsule wardrobe is to create a functioning all-seasons wardrobe using only (usually) 25 pieces of clothing. This number can be altered slightly, but it's nice to keep it on the low end of the spectrum. I shot for 30 total pieces.

You start with an idea of your uniform. Most people have one - that “look” that you go for every time you get dressed, and the typical items of clothing that go together to achieve that “look.” You pick a color scheme that is as mix-and-match as possible. Then, you go shopping

Here's my capsule wardrobe. At the end, you can see a visualization of real clothes and how they'd fit into this wardrobe.

As of 2014, I've created a new version.
